The "Gray" Family

GRAY FAMILY.

Mary Jane Gray


Mary Jane Gray was born at 8.00am on 21 November, 1867 at 1 Hendersons Close, Ladhope (Galashiels) Scotland UK (ref 152 District of Ladhope County of Roxborough).  She was the daughter of Robert Hamilton Gray born 1846 Scotland, a mill worker and Agnes (Sanderson) born 1847 of the County of Selkirk & Roxborough Scotland UK who were married on 5 July, 1867 at Berwick, Ladhope Scotland.  They emigrated to New Zealand c1875.

Mary had two brothers Robert b 1869, William b 1871 and one sister Isabella b 1873, who emigrated with the family.   Further children were born in New Zealand; Emily Georgina, John Sanderson (1884).  There is believed to be nine other children also.

Mary Jane Gray married Walter Brown on Christmas Eve, 1889 at the Registrar=s office Timaru NZ (ref 29 NZ).  Walter=s father was James Brown a bootmaker and mother Agnes McKay.




Agnes Gray

Agnes Gray died 21 December, 1902 Oxford Terrace (ref 854 Christchurch NZ) of heart disease buried 23 December, 1902 Linwood NZ.  Robert Hamilton Gray a carpenter died 31 July, 1923 (ref 784) at 21 Fowke St Richmond NZ of senile decay and heart failure.  Robert and Agnes Gray are both buried at Linwood NZ (near Christchurch).  Together they had 12 children (four males and eight females).



Robert Gray

Robert Gray, labourer of 163 Salisbury Street, Christchurch was born c1869 in Galashiels Scotland.  He arrived in New Zealand at the age of six, with his parents Robert Gray a carpenter and Agnes (Sanderson). 

Robert jnr married Mary Josephine GROVES at the age of 31 at Christchurch.

Robert jnr died 8 June, 1938 (ref 11852 NZ) aged 69 years at the Public Hospital Christchurch NZ.  He was buried on 10 June, 1938 at Bromley.
